A New Start for a Very Deserving Dog
It’s difficult to imagine what some of these animals go through before they arrive here. This is true especially when it comes to Zeus, a three year old retriever mix. Zeus and many other dogs were found living in what had at one time been a rescue facility. They had been cared for by an elderly woman who loved animals, but over time, she was no longer able to manage all of them. Eventually, when the place was discovered, over 200 dogs were found living in kennels with very little care.
An amazing group of animal welfare advocates came together to try to find rescues for the dogs. One by one, these groups pulled the dogs until there were only a few were left, still with nowhere to go. One of these dogs was Zeus. Zeus received less attention than the other dogs because of one thing: his smile. When people walked by his kennel, he was so happy to see them he smiled with his teeth and unfortunately, this was interpreted the wrong way, and he was passed by several times. One rescue group realized what a great dog Zeus was and vowed to give him a new lease on life. When they pulled him from the home, Zeus was in poor condition to say the least. He was heartworm positive, very thin and scared since he had spent his entire life in a small kennel. This group cared for Zeus, by feeding him nutritious food and treating him for heartworm. They socialized him and gave him all the care and love they could until he recently arrived at Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. We picked up where the other rescue group left off, giving Zeus all the care he needed until he found his forever home. We are excited to announce that this didn’t take long! Zeus’ story resonated with Adam Slowinski and Aleece Balchik who arrived at the shelter looking for a new family member recently. They are extremely excited to welcome Zeus into their home and give him the life he deserves. We are so thrilled for this special boy and happy that he has a second chance at a good life and forever home.
