LTBHS celebrates a great year in 2013
When 2013 rolled around we had one major goal here at LTBHS: to have the best adoption year ever. Since we were established in 1952, we’ve found homes for thousands of animals, but this year we determined that we’d have the biggest year yet, and guess what? We did!
We managed to adopt out 620 homeless dogs and cats during 2013, breaking all previous adoption records. This number is substantial, as it means we were able to rescue and place over 600 animals into loving, forever homes.
We did face some challenges in 2013, but we were able to overcome these and make a difference in the lives of all the animals that walked through our doors.
January 2013 brought us Aimee, a severely neglected and abused one year old Shih-Tzu mix who arrived here in a cardboard box. Thanks to the support of our community, we were able to provide her with the surgery she needed to repair a broken femur in her rear leg, and today she is doing great!
Spring brought us 46 kittens all pulled from one home where the cat population had grown out of control. We also saw the arrival of 11 puppy mill dogs whose coats were soiled and matted to the extreme. Once they were bathed and groomed, we worked to socialize these shy dogs, and they all eventually found their forever homes.
We had many special needs animals come through our doors in 2013, including Lily, a loveable, three-legged lab mix and Brewster, a blind chocolate lab. 2013 saw the arrival of many animals with health challenges, as well, including Petey, a Staffordshire terrier mix who was battling severe mange, and Boone, who came to us from a high risk shelter riddled with heartworm. Regardless of their physical or health challenges, we were able to find all of these deserving animals loving homes.
We are extremely proud that we were able to find homes for 620 animals in 2013 and are hoping to have another record breaking year in 2014. We are also looking forward to another year of providing the best boarding, grooming and training services possible and also hosting some great events!
Everything we do here at LTBHS would not be possible without the continued support of donors like you. Every day we strive to provide a warm bed, food, veterinary care and love to all the animals in our care. Because of your support, we can continue to find all of these animals their forever homes. We are grateful to you for such a wonderful year in 2013, and we look forward to all that 2014 has to bring!
