Ask any staff member at Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, and they’ll all tell you the same thing about this summer: it was absolutely crazy. Crazy busy, of course, but busy in a way that we know we’re doing something right here.
There hasn’t been a day this summer when our lobby wasn’t full with visitors, potential adopters or families here to volunteer. We’ve had many individuals participate in our life-saving low-cost spay/neuter programs, which has been fantastic. We’ve also had more adoptions than average too, and we’re on track to break records AGAIN this year (we broke records each year in 2013 and 2014). This is exciting because the more animals we find homes for, the more we can pull from at-risk shelters elsewhere.
Our summer events this year have been phenomenal, as well. We kicked off the summer with our annual Collars for a Cause Adopt-A-Thon at Dave Kring Chevrolet-Cadillac where we found homes for 37 animals in one day alone-the most ever! We had a lot of fun at our Cause for Paws fundraiser, which took place at the home of Lisa and Paul Fairbairn and Ann Phillips in Harbor Springs—it was a beautiful evening accompanied by delicious food and good company. Lastly, we are thrilled to report that our Howl at the Moon fundraiser this year turned out to be our very best EVER! Despite some chilly, rainy weather, people still came out in support of LTBHS and we raised life-saving funds for the animals in our care.
That’s not all. Many of you who have stopped by the shelter have noticed some construction taking place. Our administrative offices are being moved to the new addition being constructed on the west side of the building, and the current space will be converted into three meet and greet rooms. This will give potential adopters a private place to become acquainted with their new family member.
I think we can all agree that while we’re sad to see summer go, we’re ready to move into the quieter fall season and a bit of a reprieve from the busyness summer brings. One thing is certain: it is because of YOU that we’ve had such an amazing summer here at LTBHS. Thank you to everyone who supports us, whether it’s in the way of membership, adoptions, volunteering or by attending one of our events. We’re truly grateful to you for helping us make a difference in the lives of the many animals who need a second chance.
