New Future for Deserving Dogs

At Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, we are constantly taking in homeless animals with the ultimate goal of finding them new, loving homes. A typical week might go like this: we take in a few animals that have been surrendered by their owners, pick up one or two from our local stray center, or perhaps receive a transport of five to ten high-risk animals from another shelter.

Shelly is just one of the dogs who arrived at LTBHS this week and will be available for adoption at Collars for a Cause Adopt-A-Thon on June 13

This week however, was a little different. We received two transports of dogs from rescue groups who had pulled these animals from kill-shelters. In total, we brought in 27 dogs! This is huge for us, especially when you consider all of the dogs (and don’t even get us started on cats-it is kitten season, after all!) we already have at the shelter waiting for their forever homes. Currently, we have over 40 dogs at the shelter, nearly double the number we normally have! This includes two litters of adorable puppies and many sweet adult dogs who all faced uncertain futures if we had not intervened.

We are excited that these deserving pups will soon have the opportunity to find loving homes of their own and start new lives with their forever families. Our Collars for a Cause Adopt-A-Thon will take place this Saturday, June 13 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Dave Kring Chevrolet-Cadillac in Petoskey, and we are hopeful that many of our animals will find great homes during this fun event. One of the most exciting things about Collars for a Cause is that Dave Kring has generously agreed to donate $50 toward each adoption! All of our animals are spayed or neutered, have received all of their vaccinations, are micro chipped and have been groomed and trained. The only thing they need is a loving family to call their own.

The bottom line is this; we believe every life is valuable and we are so happy to have been able to help out these 27 dogs who had nowhere else to go. They will have a home at the shelter until we can find them ones of their own.
